My name is Shaquille Telford, and I believe in the power of giving. And I believe that freely giving referral is a great way to build relationships. It’s why I started and Named my company EasyToRefer.
At EasyToRefer, we help coaches organize events where we fill the room with the right people, work with sponsors to cover costs (so you can keep your credit card in your pocket), and have helped our clients walk away with a ton of referrals after each event.
He told me, "I want you to succeed so I can keep working with you." That's what my client Zachary Cochran said after walking away with 30+ referrals from his event.
Zachary Cochran, a career and leadership coach, had spent the previous year attending over 80 networking events in hopes of finding new clients. Unfortunately, those efforts left him burnt out with little to show for it.
When we met, I suggested that instead of attending endless events, he should host his own. We worked together, and his first event generated more client opportunities than the 80 networking events he had attended the year before.
When I approached him about hosting another event, he hesitated, unsure if we could replicate the success. He was concerned about the costs and whether we could fill the room with the right people again. Together, we secured sponsors to cover the event costs, developed a strategic invitation strategy to attract potential clients and referral sources, and limited Zachary's involvement to less than an hour a week.
The result? Zachary walked away with another 30+ referrals and was so impressed he introduced me to his network of business coaches, saying he wanted me "to succeed so he can keep working with me."
Patrick Shurney is a business coach. He specializes in helping business owners become more profitable, so they can pay themselves first. Patrick has run his business for a few years. He had early success attracting clients via social media but started to experience a slowdown in that area. Before meeting me, he realized to grow his business, he had to start taking a warm approach. So, he started reaching out to his network by making phone calls, and became interested in the idea of running his own event.
Around the same time, Patrick was invited to one of my former client's events, and though he couldn't make it, he was amazed to learn of the massive success it was. My former client then referred Patrick to me, and we decided to work together.
Patrick partnered with Jim Ries of Offit Kurman, and together, not only did they have a successful event, but combined with their sponsor, they generated dozens of referrals. In Patrick's words, he says I help set up their event "for a win". And Jim added by saying that there was a "good vibe" at the event.
Mary Sue and I spoke about running an event in January. At the time, none of us could have anticipated the kind of results she would get.
Mary Sue is a consultant who helps business owners develop systems that increase revenue. When she and I talked, Mary Sue had just written a book, had built a sustainable business, and was now looking to promote her new Revenue Accelerator program. She had attended one of my client's previous events and was impressed by how it looked, and imagined how it could look for her.
When she and I discussed working together, she mentioned everything she would do to make the event look like her. I listened intently as she expressed all the details. I asked her "have you run an event before?". She answered with "Yes, but it didn't come out the way I liked it."
I then proceeded to ask her "What would make an event like this a win for you?". She answered saying "being able to get clients from this event." We then went over all the details.
In April, we started our process. In May, she had her event. And by May 14, not only did she get all her money back by the new clients she landed, but had a pipeline of many more people eager to learn more about working with her.
She loved her event so much, she is planning a few more events to close out the year.
Out of all the people you know, who is a business consultant who runs events but struggles to fill the room, cover event costs, and/or acquire any clients from their events. If anyone comes to mind, just email me back "Shaquille, I have someone in mind".
He had no network and still received tons of opportunities
Walid is a fractional CFO based in Canada. He built a thriving practice in his city but wanted to expand into the U.S. The challenge? He had almost no contacts there.
I first heard about Walid when a trusted colleague referred him to me via email. When we connected, he shared his goal of growing his business in the U.S. but was worried about not knowing enough people to make it happen. No problem. I suggested he host an event to meet potential clients and referral partners. His concern? That no one would show up. My promise? I'd fill the room with the right people, secure sponsors to cover the costs, and ensure he walked away with real opportunities to grow his business.
To make that happen, I brought Andrea on board. As a fractional COO, she had access to the right network, understood exactly who needed to be in the room, and made key introductions that turned this from just another event into a real business growth opportunity. Without Andrea, the event wouldn't have worked. She ensured that the room wasn't just full, but full of the right people.
Had Walid gone with another event planner, he might have had a beautifully executed event-but with empty seats. That would've meant wasted time, thousands of dollars in travel expenses, and no real results.
Instead, after just a few weeks of working together, Walid's event attracted nearly 60 attendees, landed him multiple new clients, and-most importantly-opened the door to future business opportunities. After seeing what was possible, he's already planning his next event with me. He even gave me an unsolicited testimonial in front of 25 entrepreneurs!
"I worked with Shaquille to host the inaugural event for my wellness business. He supported participant outreach and day of facilitation extremely well. He kept the participants informed from the moment they received the invitation and deeply engaged everyone throughout the event. He helped keep all the speakers prepared and organized. We grossed 4 figure profits and hopefully lifetime clients. Overall I would recommend Shaquille if you are planning an event with the expectation to generate leads, sales, and clients."
